Waves NS1

The most intuitive professional noise suppression plugin ever created, Waves NS1 Noise Suppressor intelligently differentiates between dialog and unwanted noise. Perfect for post production, audio forensics and musical applications alike, NS1 instantly analyzes and adapts to your signal in real-time, bringing the foreground into focus as it eliminates unnecessary background noise. Controlled by a simple single fader, NS1also features an attenuation meter shows you just how much overall energy is being removed from your input signal.

Waves WNS

The WNS Waves Noise Suppressor was designed and engineered for Post Production professionals who require fast and effective broadband noise suppression for the cleaning of dialog tracks. It is suitable for both indoor and location recordings of dialog polluted by stationary and/or modulating environment noise.

WNS is not intended for surgical removal of specific short term interferences. It is, rather, a general noise suppressor that will preserve the dialog and suppress unwanted signal simply and smoothly, with natural sound and minimal artifacts.

Waves W43

Inspired by the legendary CAT43, the W43 noise reduction plugin builds upon the legacy of the rare unit that’s been a post production favorite for decades. W43 delivers high quality, minimal artifact multiband noise reduction like the original hardware, while adding all the advantages of software.

Like the original, the W43 was designed to suppress noise from hiss, hum, traffic, wind, air conditioning and other ambient sources, and provides control over four individual frequency bands.

This video covers the functions and practical application of the NS1, WNS and W43 Plugins.

Waves Z-Noise

Waves Z-Noise is a single-ended broadband noise reduction audio processor. It very effectively reduces noise while preserving the highest audio quality. Superficially, Z-Noise works like other broadband noise reduction processors which use a noise profile, or noise print, to differentiate valid signal from noise. However, Z-Noise uses intelligent multi-level decision algorithms to maximize noise reduction with minimum unwanted artifacts. Plus, Z-Noise uses a more musical band spilt method for more natural results throughout the sound spectrum.

Z-Noise is ideal for removing additive noise such as tape hiss, vinyl surface damage, wind, air conditioner and ventilation system noise. Z-Noise offers several improvements, including:

• Z-Noise works on the complete frequency spectrum, thus high-frequency hiss and low-frequency rumble can be removed in the same pass. It is a truly broadband noise removal tool.

Real-time operation allows you to adjust parameters and hear the results immediately.

There are several new features in Z-Noise which address problems unique to broadband noise reduction:

Extract Profile Mode – Not always do you have a section of pure noise from which to create a noise profile. Using the Extract Noise Profile feature, you can create a noise profile from a noise sample which is “contaminated” by program material which you wish to save.

Adaptive Mode – You do not necessarily need to create a noise profile in order to reduce noise. In the Adaptive Mode, Z-Noise extracts a noise profile on-the-fly and reduces the noise even if the profile changes over time.

Better transient treatment – Z-Noise offers improved transient handling as well as enhanced transient processing options that allow for greater noise reduction with less transients smearing. Z-Noise can detect and enhance transients prior to noise reduction processing, then de-enhance the transients after noise reduction, thus allowing for more aggressive noise reduction while preserving transients.

Enhanced Noise profile adjustments – In both the normal and adaptive modes, Z-Noise allows you to control the spectral nature of the noise profile. In this manner you can more precisely define what is a noise and what is program material. The noise profile can be equalized using a five-band paragraphic EQ interface.

Waves X-Noise

Waves X-Noise reduces noise with minimal signal degradation while preserving excellent audio quality. X-Noise is part of the Waves Restoration bundle, which removes clicks, crackles, and hum from vinyl records and damaged recordings. X-Noise and the other Restoration plug-ins have a friendly interface that is easy to learn and use.

X-Noise is ideal for removing background noise caused by tape hiss and air- conditioner/ventilation systems. Loud, short-impulse noise and discrete signal disturbances should be treated first by X-Click, X-Crackle, or both.

X-Noise connects to an audio host application through its plug-in architecture. The algorithm is based on a single-ended, broadband, real-time, noise-reduction principle that uses frequency-domain analysis to detect and reduce unwanted noise from the source.

Single-ended means that X-Noise does not rely on any complementary encode/decode processing applied during recording and playback (i.e., Dolby NR).

Broadband refers to the wide frequency range from which noise is removed: high-frequency hiss and low-frequency rumble can both be targeted.

Real-time operation allows you to adjust the parameters and hear the results immediately.

Waves X-Click

Waves X-Click reduces strong, impulsive, transient noise while preserving excellent audio quality. X-Click is part of the Waves Restoration bundle, which restores vinyl records and damaged recordings. We recommend using X-Click first to remove large clicks and X-Crackle to take care of more delicate scratches. The plug-ins can also be chained together (X-Click->X-Crackle). X- Click and the other Restoration plug-ins have a friendly interface that is easy to learn and use. X-Click uses just two parameters to configure the click-removal process.

Clicks are caused by two types of events: digital errors that create a large, rapid transition in the waveform; physical obstacles and/or damage in the record’s needle groove. Physical damage often corrupts more samples than digital errors.

X-Click effectively removes clicks from old vinyl and shellac records, and recordings tainted by switching noise, digital cross-talk, or thyristor buzz. Unlike other click-removal systems, X-Click leaves virtually no audible artifacts if its parameters are set correctly.

X-Click employs the most recent psychoacoustic research and multilevel decision algorithms to remove clicks while preserving the sonic clarity of the source. It performs better than comparable DAW tools and as well or better than more expensive, dedicated-hardware solutions.

Waves X-Crackle

Waves X-Crackle reduces crackle sounds while preserving excellent audio quality. X-Crackle is part of the Waves Restoration bundle, which restores vinyl records and damaged recordings. X-Crackle and the other Restoration plug-ins have a friendly interface that is easy to learn and use. X-Crackle has just two parameters to adjust.

Crackles are low-level transients or small clicks and pops interspersed in the audio. While clicks (removed with the Restoration Plug-in X-Click) are more obvious and usually overpower the actual audio, crackles are more subtle, damaging a couple of samples in the area in which they occur. This can add up to a very annoying disturbance.

The Waves X-Crackle Plug-In effectively removes crackles from old vinyl and shellac records. Unlike other noise-reduction systems, X-Crackle creates virtually no audible artifacts if the correct settings are used.

For complete restoration of vinyl records we recommend using X-Crackle after X-Click. These plug-ins can also be chained together (X-Click->X-Crackle) in a single process.

Waves X-Hum

Waves X-Hum reduces rumble, DC-offset, and hum while preserving excellent audio quality. X-Hum is part of the Waves Restoration bundle, which restores vinyl records and damaged recordings. X-Hum and the other Restoration plug-ins have a friendly interface that is easy to learn and use.

Hum disturbance is usually caused by problematic ground-loop circuits. Steady, low-frequency oscillation may occur in the recording, usually at a sub frequency of the AC used in that country. For example, Europe uses 240 VAC so an ungrounded loop can cause a 60 Hz hum. The fundamental disturbance can also cause harmonics at high enough amplitudes to create additional problems.

Low-frequency rumble is caused by mechanical analog systems, such as turntables and tape machines; it is not steady in pitch.

DC offset tilts in the audio waveform to one side of the zero baseline.

This video covers the functions and practical application of the Waves Restoration Bundle plugins.
