What's New in Hard Disk Toolkit 1.8 and recent releases:

· The HDT fixed disk driver in this release is now 'fat.' The driver contains both 680x0 and PowerPC code that allows it to run native on either microprocessor without user intervention. As the term implies, this driver consumes more disk space than 'slim' drivers, but provides optimum performance for both platforms. To accommodate this and future drivers, all new FWB driver partitions are now 512K in size.

· You can now create volumes up to 2 terabytes in capacity when using System 7.5.2 or later on a PCI Power Macintosh. You may need to upgrade your applications and utilities to work correctly with volumes larger than 2 gigabytes in capacity.

Please note and beware: Most disk diagnostic and repair utilities currently available will not properly recognize volumes whose capacity is larger than 4 Gb or allocation block size is larger than 63.5 Kb. Such volumes may be erroneously reported as having numerous serious problems with their master directory block, extents, and directory contents.

*** Choosing to 'fix' these problems will irreparably corrupt the volume. ***
When choosing diagnostic and repair utilities for use on such volumes, be sure the documentation explicitly notes full compatibility.

· The HDT drivers in this release are now compatible with Stacker 1.x on systems using SCSI Manager 4.3, but only on the main SCSI bus (The internal bus on dual bus systems, e.g., Quadra 950, Power Macintosh 8100, or the standard bus on other Macintoshes).

· Hard Disk ToolKit is now compatible with the new PCI bus-based MacOS Compatibles.
